Creating Conversations with Nish Patel
Episode 11
You ever wonder how some people get what they want out of a conversation? In this episode of What's Your Process?, Nish Patel (TomorrowWithNish.com), host of the CreativeOps and Prompting Humans podcasts, shares how curiosity-driven conversations can shape our future.
Nish talks about the importance of being insatiably curious, thinking through the value of different ideas, and how to break free from societal expectations. He argues that as AI accelerates the pace of innovation and commoditization, our ability to have purposeful conversations will become increasingly crucial. He also claims we're gonna love meetings in 5 years! You're not gonna wanna miss this one.
The Process
1. Intro + Why Nish is grateful for his disability (0:00)
"I've gotten to see the best of humanity through my disability."
2. What is one thing you're world class at? (10:30)
3. Be insatiably curious (15:40)
"If you want to design and have a great conversation, you have to just be curious."
-
Curiosity is the key component in designing great conversations without it you can't ask the right questions
-
Being insatiably curious means leaving behind biases and assumptions
leads to creativity and innovation
-
AI will allow for us to have more curiosity-driven conversations by handling the algorithmic work that currently happens in meetings
4. Think through the value of your ideas (23:31)
"What's next is thinking through which of these ideas would actually have value out in the world?"
-
Curiosity-driven conversations are fun but not always realistic so you need to evaluate which ideas have actual real-world value
-
Consider which ideas you're in a position to act on and make real and spend your time on those
-
Focus on big ideas that can create new possibilities for tomorrow
-
Recognize that the cycle of innovation, copying, and commoditization (aka most marketing strategies) is accelerating due to AI
5. Stop trying to be enough for the system (32:57)
"You're here for an astronomical blink of an eye. What do you want to do with your blink?"
-
Avoid getting caught up in trying to meet societal expectations, focus on yourself and what you want your future to look like
-
Make intentional decisions that will get you to your desired future
-
Define success on your own terms
